"How do I get more traffic" is one of the most asked questions I hear from bloggers. Understandably so. Blogging is extremely hard work and I know that it can be deflating to look at the numbers and feel like "no one" is reading. There are many ways to increase traffic and I don't want to make it sound easy because I certainly haven't found it to be. There are, however, a few simple steps you may be missing that will help you drive more traffic to your blog.
Use long-tail tags.
When choosing tags for your post, write descriptive phrases that people would search on your topic vs. one word. If you're not sure what people are searching, find out!
Share every single post on Google+.
It's amazing to me how many bloggers don't do this, even with knowing that Google runs the (internet) world. Bold your title(*title*), write a description and use 3-5 relevant hashtags.
Tap in to the power of Pinterest.
Pinterest is a major source of referral traffic for many bloggers. There are numerous courses on Pinterest and the strategies can get rather involved but if you want to keep it simple: 1) Join group boards, 2) Make vertical pins that are easy to read 3) Pin your own posts daily to group boards and 4) Pin high value pins daily to your own boards. (High Value being pins that are popular and that have a high repin number.)
Cross promote with a blogging buddy.
Connect with someone (or a handful of someone's) in your niche and share each other's content on social networks with tags. You can also simply give a shout out. You may be wondering how this differs from Facebook threads. The difference is, with a buddy your audience will see an established relationship between bloggers. In other words, there is a little more weight behind endorsing someone as a friend/colleague. Plus, if they like following you, they'll probably like following your friend, right?
Get links to your blog.
Most bloggers know that back links are important but it can seem rather daunting. Especially since, we are often told that doing guest posts is how you get links. While guest posting hast its value, this post is about simple ways to get more traffic! The easiest way to get link back to your blog (and several at a time, at that) is to participate in a blog hop. A blog hop is basically a roundup, however, instead of a single blogger rounding up posts several bloggers are rounding up and linking back to each other. This will give you several link backs in one shot.
Post more often.
You do not have to post a lot in order to have a successful blog. Trust me. For almost an entire year, I only posted once a week. However, we are talking about increasing traffic and it's inevitable. More posts will get you more traffic. Of course you don't want to sacrifice quality for quantity. In the end, that will only hurt you. But if you can post more and maintain quality work, this will definitely help your traffic.
Write better headlines.
In many cases, your blog title alone is what will (or won't) get people to click on your blog post. Your headline is a vital piece to the puzzle of driving traffic to your blog. I use this headline analyzer for all of my post titles. When you type in your headline, the analyzer will give you a score. The score will be red, yellow or green. If it's not green, keep trying until it is. After awhile you'll get a good idea of what works and you can raise your goal.
