My son just celebrated his second birthday. (sniff sniff) Sometimes I still can't believe that I was pregnant, let alone, that we've officially passed the baby stage. Time really does fly by and though I miss my son being a baby, having a toddler is really fun. (Tiring but fun!) They're always going, always learning and pretty easy to please (except when they're impossible to please). If you're in the market for a gift for a two year old, I've got you covered! Here's what to buy a two year old:

When in doubt... buy bubbles! Bubbles are always a hit with toddlers and you seriously can never have too many. You can get bubble solution and wands or a bubble machine (our favorite is the Gazillion Bubble Hurricane Machine).
Books are always a great idea for gifts. I especially love when people personalize them with a message inside. Or you can get an actual personalized book. We received an iSee Me! book for review and we love it. All you have to do is submit a picture for the book, some basic info about the child (name & birthdate) and choose a message. There are different books to choose from, they even have birthday books! I chose "Malachi's 321 Countdown" because I wanted to work on his numbers. Everyone I've shown the book to gets a big kick out of seeing my son's face throughout the book and, of course, he does, too! i See Me! is seriously a great idea for a birthday gift!
While clothes may not be the most exciting gift, they are definitely needed! Kids grow so fast and are in need of a new wardrobe every season. I am very grateful when people buy my son clothes and the good thing about toddlers is they still get excited about clothes! Buy a cute character shirt or a shirt with something they like on it. For example, I bought my son a shirt with different sports balls on it and my parents bought him a couple of Golden State Warriors t-shirts and a jersey (he loves basketball).
Dress Up & Other Imaginative Play Toys
One of the things I really enjoy about this stage right now, is seeing my son's imagination start to unfold. There are so many great toys that can promote imagination in kids - like play food & dress up clothes! My son received a pots and pans set that he really enjoys "making pizza" with.
You really can't go wrong with a musical instrument for a two year old. Not only do they love music but music is an important part of development. We have two sets of the Melissa & Doug musical instruments and my son loves them! After his birthday, he added a guitar and trumpet to his musical collection. Again, you really can't go wrong with instruments!
No Mess Coloring Books
Toddlers love to color. Usually on walls, furniture, themselves, their friends... this is why the no mess coloring books & markers make a great gift! They are a fairly inexpensive gift but expensive enough to make parents think twice about buying them, which makes them a great gift idea.
Planes, Trains & Automobiles
Two year old's are very intrigued by things with wheels (especially pull back's) - police cars, race cars, fire trucks, dump trucks - there are so many ways you could go with this and many of them are budget friendly!
