When you're busy chasing a toddler around, there's little time to put makeup on much less make touch ups. Find out what the best long-lasting mascaras are - guaranteed to outlast your toddler!Read More
I can tell you exactly when I fell in love with makeup. Or whenish. It started when I was fresh out of high school and had become friend's with the wife of one of the pastors at my church. She wasn't much older than me but I really looked up to her and I always admired her makeup! One day she invited me to go to a fancy dinner on a boat. Ummm.... yes, please!
I went to the fancy dinner and came home a Mary Kay consultant. I really had not been into makeup much up to that point but, man, those speeches are so convincing.
It would be a long while before I became somewhat proficient at applying my own makeup, but this was definitely the beginning of an obsession. I loved going through all of the samples (which I mostly used on myself) and playing with makeup.
To this day, I love playing with makeup. But as a work from home mom with a toddler, my time is more limited than ever. Finding time to put makeup on at all is a struggle, let alone leisurely applying it!
I think that something that deters a lot of moms from putting on makeup is that they think of "full face" makeup but you definitely don't have to do that. There are little ways to trim down on the amount of products you are using.

Use BB or CC cream.
Using a CC or BB cream can cut down immensely on the makeup application time because they are designed to serve a variety of purposes from moisturizer to primer to a touch of color. BB creams will give you more tint, if you ware wanting something that will be more of a light foundation. Some CC creams have just as much tint but others don't, it varies by brand. The main difference is that CC cream is color correcting, which means it is intended to even out skin tone, cover redness, etc. Two of my favorite brands BB creams are Smashbox and Cover FX. If you are looking for a drugstore brand, I recommend Loreal.
Use a cream to powder or powder foundation.
If you want more coverage than a BB or CC cream will provide but still want to trim down on the time, using a cream to powder like this one from Mary Kay or powder foundation, I really like the Smooth Mirco Baked Foundation from Sephora.
Stick to one eye shadow color.
Sometimes when I'm in a big hurry, I will just put one color of eye shadow on instead of my usual three. I pick a color that's close to my skin color and apply it all over. This helps even out any uneven coloring on the lid.
Skip the eyeliner.
Another great way to save time is to skip the eyeliner. I love eyeliner but it can be one of the more time consuming steps. If you really want to cut down time, skip the eyeliner and just use mascara.
Organize your makeup.
Nothing wastes more time than searching the world over for your favorite lip gloss! Keeping your makeup organized can be a major time saver. Whether you have a ton of makeup or not, have a place for it and put it back in it's place.
Throw it away.
When something runs out or breaks... throw it away! I know it seems silly to say these things but I know I can't be the only guilty of tossing a shattered palette back in the makeup drawer or bag. It only creates more of a mess and will take more of your time.
