We do a lot of singing around here. Pretty much at any given moment in time, there will be music on, usually from YouTube, or we are just singing on our own. Of course, music is fun but it is also an important part of development for children. So, even if you sing just for the sake of being silly it serves a much bigger purpose. Here are a few of our favorite silly songs - guaranteed to make music time with your toddler (or preschooler) extra fun!
Do You Like Broccoli Ice Cream?
My son gets the biggest kick out of this song. It asks if you like a certain food (like broccoli) and or ice cream. Then it combines the foods together. "Do you like broccoli ice cream?" "No, I don't. Yucky!" There's a few versions of this song and we like them all! We like to make up our own strange combinations, too.
Walking in the Jungle
Walking in the Jungle is a fun song that includes animals, which is always exciting for little ones. It's also great for action words (walking, stomping, skipping, etc.) and counting. As the characters walk, stomp, etc. through the jungle they declare, "we're not afraid, we're not afraid". They encounter different jungle animals and reiterate that they're not afraid. Until they come across a tiger that is.... RUN! It's kind of silly but my son really likes it.
Put on Your Shoes
This is another favorite at our house. "Put on your shoes, your shoes, your shoes. Put on your shes, let's go outside. Hurry up, hurry up, hurry, hurry up." Then it goes through jacket, scarf, and hat.
Open Shut Them
One thing I love about music is that it's a great way for a child to learn in an informal way... and without the child even realizing it. This is a great one for learning. It teaches opposites and this video on YouTube has some silly illustrations to go along with it!
Wag Your Tail
This is a great (silly) way to get your little one moving. There's some actions and your little one will also learn about different animals and speed (fast and slow). My son really enjoys this one, too!
What Do You Like To Do?
I really like this one myself! The song asks, "what do you like to do" then takes you through a series of activities such as, "I like running" and then adds a silly line, "but I don't like running with a bear". This is a really fun one.
The Gummy Bear Song
For the final song on my list I thought I'd go with 100% pure silliness. This is another one my son is totally crazy about and will ask to listen to over and over... and over again. Like I said, it's pure silliness, so instead of looking for something educational just turn up the volume and dance!
